Le Méridien Dhaka observed Earth Hour 2018, a global movement to shine a light on the need for climate action. From 20:30 (8:30 pm) to 21:30 (9:30 pm) local time on March 24, towns and cities around the world celebrated Earth Hour by switching off their power. In this connection, Le Méridien Dhaka switched off lights and took several energy-saving measures for one full hour.
Earth Hour is a worldwide movement organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The event is held annually, encouraging individuals, communities, and businesses to turn off non-essential electric lights for one whole hour, from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm on a specific day towards the end of March, as a symbol of commitment to the planet. It was started as a lights-off event in Sydney, Australia, in 2007. Since then, it has grown to engage more than 7,000 cities and towns across 187 countries and territories.
Le Méridien Dhaka embraces its global responsibility and unique opportunity to be a force for good. Guided by its sustainability and social impact platform, “Serve 360: Doing Good in Every Direction”. Le Méridien Dhaka is committed to make a positive and sustainable impact.
A high official from Le Méridien Dhaka said, “We are observing this global movement with utmost sincerity and aligning our operations accordingly. Global climate change is an alarming concern which needs to be taken very seriously. We believe that everyone has a certain responsibility for the well-being of the planet and Le Méridien Dhaka is very much committed to the cause.”
