Discussion on March 7 speech of Bangabandhu held at Ideal College
Speakers at a discussion yesterday said the historic March 7 speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is a source of inspiration for all to fight against oppression and tyranny. Being inspired by his speech, people fought against the Pakistani occupation forces and freed the country from the shackles of domination and oppression.
They said the speech has now achieved international recognition and become an international speech. The remarks came at a discussion and prize giving ceremony on countrywide essay competition on 'Speech of March 7: Historic Document of Bengali Nation' and annual sports competition at Ideal College premises in the capital.
Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Open University Prof Dr MA Mannan, president of governing body of Ideal College Advocate Syed Rezaur Rahman, principal of Ideal College Prof Jasim Uddin Ahmed and Prof Mamtaz Begum, among others, were present on the occasion. Prof Dr MA Mannan said, "We have to make the educational institutions student friendly, not teachers friendly.” Prof Jasim said, "We were inspired by the speech of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and freed the country from the oppression of Pakistan. May this speech inspire our future generations to work for better Bangladesh."
JU, IU set to celebrate Independence Day
The authorities of Jahangirnagar University (JU) and Islamic University (IU)are set to celebrate the 48th Independence and National Day with a vow to uphold the spirit of the Liberation War and build a 'Sonar Bangla' as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
To mark the day, the JU authorities have chalked out elaborate programmes on the campus. National anthem will be played at the central playground on the campus at 8am on the day, with teachers, students and officials of the university taking part in it. Later, JU Vice Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam accompanied by teachers, students and officials will pay homage to the martyrs of liberation war by placing wreaths at the National Memorial in Savar. Meanwhile, JU Teacher-Student Center (TSC) has organized a four day 'Muktisangram Festival' to celebrate the Black Night of March 25 and Independence Day Organized by JU TSC, around two kilometer long ‘Alpona’ will be drawn on the campus premises. Marking the day, IU authority has chalked out elaborate programmes including hoisting national flag in front of the administrative building and residential halls, bringing out grand rally on the campus, placing floral wreaths at the memorial monument and expressing felicitation to the freedom fighters working in the university. IU Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari, Pro-VC Professor Dr M Shahinoor Rahman, Treasurer Professor Dr M Selim Toha, acting Registrar SM Abdul Latif along with teachers, students and officials of the university will participate in the day-long program.
JUCA gets new committee
SAVAR: Jahangirnagar University Cultural Alliance (JUCA) has elected a 10 member executive body for the next one year. Ashikur Rahman of Jahangirnagar Theatre and Shahidul Islam Pappu of Dhoni, a cultural organization, were elected as President and General Secretary respectively, said a press release here today. After the election, Former Secretary of JUCA Nazmul Hasan announced the new executive body, the release added.The other office bearer of the committee are - Vice President Tanvir Hasan, Mahathir Mohammed, Treasurer Shahadat Hossain Shadhin, Office Secretary Prithula Prashun Puja, Publicity and Publication affair Secretary Maruf Mozammel and Executive Member Khalid Mithun, Zenifar Ehsan, Hasan Mahdi Rukas Tahsin Asrar And and Shahadat Noman, it said.
