Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) is expecting that shooters will win medal for the country in the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
BOA secretary general Syed Shahed Reza and vice-president Nazimuddin Chowdhury, expect that Bangladesh shooters will not deprive the nation from winning medals the Commonwealth Games.
They made heir expectation in a press meet yesterday before the Gold Coast, Australia, bound Bangladesh team leaves the country.
Meanwhile, a total of 37-men team will take part in the 21st Commonwealth Games from Bangladesh and out of which an 18-men team of shooting have already reached Gold Coast.
However, in the press conference, the BOA officials responded very positively to the queries of the reporters at the Dutch Bangla Bank Auditorium of the BOA.
Shahed Reza and Nazimuddin detailed all about the preparation of the athletes and their anticipation and the prospect of Bangladesh’s of winning medal.
“Among the disciplines Bangladesh will take part in the games, shooting is our main event, they have better prospect to win medals, they won in previous editions of the Games, even we won gold and silver medals in the Commonwealth Games, all you know, so they went earlier to have practice and to become familiar with the condition,” said Shahed Reza.
Replying to a query about the grounds to send athletes of other disciplines, who have no chance to win medal, the secretary general of the BOA said, “We are taking part in the six disciplines, shooting is the main, but we can’t take part in the only one discipline in the games, we can’t keep us in our home competitions years after years, we have to give exposure them, they should have to get the experience of that level competition.”
“We send the athletes who are the best and number one in the country, we could not give them proper training round the year, we used to send a team in the international meet with three/two months training, in future we have plan to organize long time training camp.”
“We organized the Youth Games for the first time, don’t think, we have done it for a formality, we will continue this and from this games we picked some talents and we will nurse them to get future athletes,” Shahed Reza revealed.
Nazimuddin also the president of the Bangladesh Shooting Sports Federation (BSSF) announced that the gold medal winners will be awarded with Taka 10 lakhs, silver Taka seven lakhs and Taka five lakhs to bronze medal winners while BOA announced Taka 10 lakhs for gold, Taka five for silver and Take three lakhs for bronze medal winners.
Meanwhile, any of the gold medal winners will be awarded US dollars 5000 on the spot at the Games venue.
