Stocks open week downward

Stock markets opened the week yesterday with falling trends of all major price indices at Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges, reports BSS.

The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the opening session with 10.40 points down at 5,570.18. The blue-chip DS30 and the Shariah DSES also followed the same trend with 6.91 points lower at 2075.36 and with 2.26 points down at 1,319.75.

The daily trade value fell to Tk 224.53 crore from last Thursday's Tk 388.21 crore and the volume declined to 7.13 crore shares from 12.15 crore shares and mutual funds of the previous week's closing session.

Out of the day's 337 issues, 111 closed lower against 153 losing securities.

The day's five major gainers were Reckitt Benckiser, Style Craft, Northern Jute, Eastern Insurance and Paramount Insurance.

Queen South Textiles, Ail Industries, Pharmaid, Zeal Bangla Sugar and Imam Button were the top five losing securities on the day.

In the port city the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) began the week down with its major CASPI index closing 63.05 point lower to 17,176.30.

Out of the 227 issues traded on the CSE, 127 closed lower against 64 advancing securities when 49.05 lakh shares changed hands for Taka 16.95 crore.

Director of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Minhaz Mannan Emon met BSEC Chairman M Khairul Hossain discussed ADR Ratio, bank exposure, decision about strategic investor and capital gain tax for greater interest of the capital market.

They discussed the matters when the newly elected Director of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Minhaz Mannan Emon called on BSEC Chairman M Khairul Hossain at the latter's office in the capital yesterday.

Shareholder Directors Sharif Ataur Rahman, Md. Hanif Bhuiya and outgoing Director and former President Shakil Rizvi were present during the meeting, said a DSE press release.

BSEC Chairman Khairul Hossain welcomed the newly elected director of DSE and said that the new director DSE is a person of vast experience on capital market and hoped that the inclusion of new director of DSE would help steer the upcoming challenges of the capital market.

Minhaz Mannan Emon was elected as a shareholder director on March 20 and inducted in the board at the 56th annual general meeting of DSE held on March 22.
