Bir Pratik Kakon Bibi passes away

STAFF REPORTER

Noorjahan Kakon Bibi, who won the fourth highest gallantry award ‘Bir Pratik’ for her extraordinary bravery during the Liberation War in 1971, breathed her last at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital yesterday. She was around 100 years old.

Earlier, on Monday, she was admitted to the hospital with breathing complaints. After suffering a heart attack in July last year, she took treatment at the same hospital.

Being tortured by the Pakistani forces in 1971, she joined the Liberation War and took trainings on using arms and ammunitions. She also operated as a ‘covert agent’ to collect information for the freedom fighters.
