3 DU students get Kaniz-e-Batul Scholarship

Three meritorious students of the Department of Urdu of Dhaka University (DU) were awarded 'Professor Dr Kaniz-e- Batul Memorial Scholarship' for their outstanding academic performances.

 DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman distributed the scholarship among the students as chief guest at a function at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the university. Recipients of the scholarships are - Mst Alpona Akter, Tamanna Akter and Md Rezaul Karim. Paying glowing tribute to the memory of late Professor Dr Kaniz-e- Batul, VC Md. Akhtaruzzaman said, "She was a brilliant, honest and sincere teacher as well as a person possessing non-communal values."

He urged the students to make themselves as worthy citizen by following the ideals of late Prof Kaniz-e-Batul. Donor of the trust fund Syed Taki Mohammad and Chairman of the Department of Urdu Dr Rashid Ahmad addressed the programme. Treasurer of DU Prof Md Kamal Uddin presided over the function. Born in December 14, 1951, Dr Kaniz-e-Batul was a professor of the Department of Urdu of DU. She died on July 6, 2015 in Dhaka.

World Social Work Day observed at RU

Teachers, students and staff of the department of social work at Rajshahi University on Tuesday brought out a colourful rally in front of Mamtajuddin Arts Building on the university campus, marking the World Social Work Day.

Following the rally a gathering was arranged at Sheik Rasel Model School premises of the campus. Presiding over by Chairman of Social Work Department Professor Sadequl Arefin Matin, Emaz Uddin and Prof Dr Asrafuzzaman, among others, spoke at the programme. The theme of the day was ‘Promoting Community and Environmental Sustainability’ which relates to the third pillar of the Global Agenda for Social Work and Social Development. In observance of the day, Department of Social Work and Social Work Association of the university jointly chalked out different programmes.

Seminar on mathematical physics held at IU

Mathematics department of Islamic University organised a day-long seminar titled ‘Exact Solution to the Fractional Differential Equation on Mathematical Physics’ at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia on Tuesday.

Dr M Anisur Rhaman, assistant professor of the department, conducted the programme with Profe ssor Dr Momtajul Islam present as the chief guest.

Prof SM Mostofa Kamal, department of Mathematics, Associate Professor Mizanur Rahman, Kamrun Nahar and M Assaduz Zaman of the department, Assistant Professor Sozib Ali, Abul Kawsar, chairman of the department were present at the programme.

Besides, the Law department organised an orientation programme at Bir Sreshtha Hamidur Rahman auditorium yesterday around 11am.

IU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari was present as the chief guest with Professor Dr M Zohurul Islam in the chair.
