State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque Chunnu yesterday said minimum wages for the RMG workers will
be announced before the next general election, reports BSS.
The state minister said this while addressing a function at a convention hall in the capital, a handout said.
Manusher Jonno Foundation with support from Terre des Hommes (TDH Italy) arranged the discussion to disseminate the findings of a survey
on conditions and rights of the RMG workers in Bangladesh.
Associate Professor of the Department of Anthropology at Jahangirnagar University Dr Mahmudul H Sumon carried out the survey.
Mujibul said it will take time to ensure the living wage for the RMG workers as the economic capability of the country is increasing day by day.
“The RMG industry will surely come to a living wage level one day,” he said, urging the brand-buyer organisations to take steps for raising
the price of the RMG
products.
