PDB to generate power from N’ganj garbage

State-owned Power Development Board (PDB) yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) to utilize 500 metric tons of solid waste for generating electricity, reports UNB.

The PDB will implement the power project at Jalkuri in Narayanganj.

Addressing the contract signing ceremony, state minister for power and energy Nasrul Hamid said the government has a plan to implement more similar waste-to-energy project once this one succeeds.

NCC Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy, power secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus, PDB chairman Khaled Mahmood and other concerned senior officials attended the signing function.

Nasrul Hamid said Narayanganj is one of the densely populated city.

"I hope PDB will invite tender within April 15, 2018 for implementing 3MW-5MW waste based IPP power project," the junior minister said.

He noted that Dhaka city is now producing over 9000 metric tons of waste daily.

He informed that the country has already generated highest 10,084 MW of electricity on March 19. "So we have no problem to supply electricity in the Boro season and hot summer," he said.
