Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 20 gold bars weighing 2 kg from bordering Sadipur area under Benapole Port Police Station yesterday morning.
On secret information, team of paramilitary force conducted a drive in the area around 9am and recovered the gold bars worth Tk 1 crore, said Lt Col Ariful Haque, captain of BGB-49 Battalion.
However, sensing the presence of the BGB members, the smugglers fled the scene, he added.
The gold was deposited to Benapole Customs House and a case was filed in this connection.
