Bangladesh national football team will face the toughest challenge today when they will take on Australia in their World Cup qualifying football match to be played at the Perth Oval, known as Nib Stadium. Meanwhile, Bangladesh players have been facing another challenge with the local chilly weather before their main assignment.
Bangladesh have already played two matches of the World Cup qualifying round while, they went down to Kyrgyzstan by 3-1 in first match and drew 1-1 with Tajikistan in second match. Both matches were held in Dhaka. Australia played one match when they beat Kyrgyzstan 2-1 in Bishkek, capital of Kyrgyzstan.
The preparation match in Malaysia was as a dress rehearsal of Australia match, as coach Kruif before leaving Bangladesh for Australia put across the strategy in a press conference when he told that they will have to play with 80 to 85 percent defensive oriented game which they did in Malaysia.
But Bangladesh team a combination of a bunch of young and experienced booters – Mamunul, Hementa, Emily, Enamul, Sohel, Yasin Khan, Jamal Bhuiyan, Toklis, Jewel Rana, Nasirul Islam are ready to take on - Mathew Leckie, Tim Cahill, Tom Rogic, Nathan Burns and Massimo Luongo world class performers and all of them are in form, playing in different European league championships. Meanwhile, according to a message received at Bangladesh Football federation from Australia, Hementa Vincent, has a minor hamstring injury if he could not recover, Monayem Khan Raju might replace him while Enamul will be in the starting lineup in place of Sohel Rana.
In the pre-match press conference in Perth yesterday, Bangladesh coach Lodewijk De Kruif said, “I don’t want anything extra from the boys, I want them to play in accordance with their strength.” “Tim Cahill, who wears No 21 number jersey is very dangerous player. He can change the character of the game at any time at any situation, so we will should not lose our concentration for a moment from the match.”
“I expect boys will implement the techniques I taught them in the last few days. We will play our genuine game rather than looking for Australian game.”
“It will be a good experience for our Bangladesh team to play against Australia, the Asian champions. We are underdogs in comparison to Australian FIFA ranking and all other sides. But we will give our best to keep Australia stop by our tactics, technique and skills, in 90 minutes match we will try to achieve a good result. Our boys are all young they will try their bests, they all are very excited to play the match here in Perth.
Bangladesh team captain Mamunul Islam said that they are keeping their morale high as they will have nothing to lose against Australia and are also boosted up after the FIFA friendly with Malaysia. “We will give our best and will try to fight till 90 minutes time with giving our best efforts.”
