Enamul Hasan, brother of Faizul Hasan who attacked eminent writer Prof Muhammed Zafar Iqbal on March 3, gave confessional statement before a Sylhet court yesterday, reports UNB. The court recorded Enamul's statement under section 164 when Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Jalalabad police Station and also the investigation officer of the case, produced him before the court after expiry of his 8-day remand, said Amullo Kumar Chowdhury, assistant commissioner (prosecution) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police. Later, the court ordered to send Enamul to jail, he added.
Earlier on Sunday, Faizul confessed before the court that he was involved in militant activities for long and his brother Enamul inspired him to these activities. Soon after the knife attack, Enamul along with his parents fled away along with his computer, memory card and other related documents.
On March 9, members of Counter Terrorism and International Crime (CTTC) arrested Enamul from Gazipur and handed over to Jalalabad police on the next day. He was put on 8-day remand on March 13.
Prof Zafar Iqbal came under attack at the Mukta Mancha of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) during a programme, 'Robofight,' on March 3. Police arrested Faizul, 25, from the spot.
