Man shot dead over land dispute

A man was shot dead and two others were injured in a clash between two rival groups over a land-related dispute in Munshipara village of Chittagong on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Ledu Mia, 50, son of Naosha Mia of Dhungra village of the upazila while the two injured were Abdul Aziz, 35, son of Kamrul Islam and Mir Ahmed, 55, son of Raoshanozzaman of the same village.

Locals said the clash sparked off in the afternoon between two next-door neighbours and rivals as a sequel to a long-running dispute over a piece of land, leaving three people injured, with Ledu suffering a bullet injury.

All three were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where Ledu succumbed to his injury.

Assistant sub-inspector of CMCH Police Camp Shilbrato Barua confirmed the incident saying that Ledu had taken a bullet wound to the head during the clash.

Independence Day programmes in Khulna

Khulna district administration and Khulna city and district units of Awami League have taken massive programmes to observe the 48th Independence Day.

To observe the day, Khulna district administration has taken elaborate programmes at a preparatory meeting held on March 7 at the conference room of deputy commissioner office here.

Chaired by Khulna deputy commissioner Aminul Ahsan, freedom fighters, elites, officials, educationists, journalists, political and cultural activists of the city attended the meeting.

The Independence Day will be heralded by a 31-gun salute at dawn on Khulna Police Lines ground.

Khulna divisional commissioner Md Lokman Hossain Mia will hoist the national flag at Khulna Stadium.

Khulna Shishu Academy will organise an art and painting competitions for children on the occasion.

Qulkhwani of Rebecca Mohiuddin Friday

The Qulkhwani of Rebecca Mohiuddin, wife of late veteran parliamentarian Mohiuddin Ahmed, will be held on Friday at her residence on Road No 32 Dhanmondi RA in the capital.

Rebeeca Mohiuddin, a co-associate of Liberation War, died of prolonged illness at Apollo Hospitals in the capital on Monday.Her namaz-e-janaza will be held today after Zohr prayers at Taqwa Mosque on Dhanmondi Road 12A. Later she will be buried at the Mirpur Martyred Intellectual Graveyard at same grave of her husband.

 Ahmed Sajjadul Alam, the elder son of the deceased, has requested all her well wishers and relatives to attend the Qulkhwani.
