Getting Over a Break-up

Getting Over a Break-up

Akib Hassan

A blink of an eye and the blue sky above went grey? This is life. Things don’t always go the way it’s planned. We all know how painful a breakup can be. It’s never easy when a significant relationship ends. Whatever the reason for the split—and whether you wanted it or not—the breakup of a relationship can turn your whole world upside down and trigger all sorts of painful and unsettling feelings. But why do breakups hurt so much, even when the relationship is no longer good? A breakup is painful because it represents the loss, not just of the relationship, but also of shared dreams and commitments. Romantic relationships begin on a high note of excitement and hope for the future. When these relationships fail, we experience profound disappointment, stress, and grief.
Psychologists and researchers had been putting their skills to test to work out the sum of reducing pain after a breakup. These are some of the outcomes science came up with over time.
Recovering from a breakup is difficult. However, it’s important to know that you can and will move on. But healing takes time, so be patient with yourself. Here are some simple but effective ways to tame your anxious mind and letting it go:

Reflect on your relationship- Consider all of the reasons that you and your ex broke up. Try to keep in mind that even if that you enjoyed being together for a while, something was not working. Thinking about the reasons why the relationship ended can help you understand why you need to move on.

Cut down contacts- It can be tough but its imperial that you cut down all contacts of your ex. At some point you might badly feel you check out if they are affected too, but it will only worsen the situation. Deleting his/her number and burning off photos might help serve the purpose.

Give time to yourself- Hangout! Call some friends and enjoy yourself or simply grab a new game. The purpose is to keep your mind busy from her/his thoughts. Speaking about how you feel to someone might give instant relief but the less you think the better it is.

Let it all out- This is the most important part. No matter how hard you try to hide your feelings, it will keep haunting you. So just look the doors and scream it out! It might sound silly, but it’s the most recommended advice by numerous psychologists.

Always remind yourself that your goal is moving on. Life can get harsh, but there’s always a way out. That’s why the wise said, “When nothing goes Right.... go left!”
