A daylong programme marking the World Puppet Theatre Day will be held today at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in the capital, reports UNB.
Drama and film department of BSA will host a discussion, honorary award ceremony and a puppet show marking the day.
The troupe of Bagherhat, ‘Azad Putul Nach’ and Bangladesh Puppet Theatre Research and Development Centre of Jahangirnagar University will present puppet shows at the studio theatre hall of the national theatre building of BSA from 4.30pm.
Alongside, a discussion and honorary award giving programme will be held at 6.30pm at the experimental theatre hall while a multimedia puppet theatre show at 7pm at the same venue.
On the other hand, Shilpakala Academy will also award prominent artist Mustafa Monwar with lifetime achievement award while ‘Gunijon honorary award’ will be handed over to the puppeteer Mosharaf Hossain Dorji for this year.
BSA has been celebrating the day and awarding one artist who is contributing to the development of the puppet theatre since 2013.
World Puppetry Day was first marked in 2003 following a proposal from Iranian puppet theatre artist Javad Zolfaghari while the global celebration is held by the International Union of the Marionette (UNIMA). l
