BCB starts process to prepare next World Cup team: Bashar

Targeting the next 2019 ICC World Cup and 2020 ICC T20 World Cup, Bangladesh have devised a long-term mechanism for which they have already started their basic works as Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) selection panel member Habibul Bashar said.

Sumon also said that they have a host of series and tournament ahead what they will play under the banners of the national team and A team. By a good number of new players, they have already tried and will try out by them in days to come as a part of their future plan.

“We’ve already started our work for the 2019 World Cup. You’ve obviously seen that we’ve tried by some new players in the last back-to-back home series,” said Habibul Bashar.

“There was a good cause of it as we’ve World Cups in 2020 and 2019. Our current team has been performing well. Along with that, we have to prepare our new players,” Bashar told reporters.

“For this, we have tried by some new players now and then. A team series will provide a good scope for our new players,” he added.  Bashar said that they see those series as an opportunity because they’ll get chance to try out of our players both the national team and A team coupled with our future players.

“Before the series against the West Indies, we’ve heard another series against Afghanistan. But after finalising the series, we’ll get to know about it,” he said.

“But we’ve good news that we’ll get to play a string of A team series ahead beside Bangladesh team’s games. We’ve no international schedule before June. So, we needed to correct the base prior to those games. Through the A team series we could recorrect our base of the national team’s players, who have been passing patchy form, coupled with our future players whose we want to see in the national team next,” he also said.

“You’ve seen that we’ve given chance a school of players in the last couple of series. We’ll give them more chances ahead. Actually we’ll try out them throughout the series how much they’re prepared for the national team,” he added.

Sri Lanka A team will come here in Bangladesh before the arrival of the West Indies A team, the series which will be run simultaneously with their national team’s games in July.

The BCB selection panel member said that the fixture of the both National and A team’s tours have been finalised.  According to the fixture, the West Indies tour will be opened with Test what will start from Antigua and Barbuda.

“Both the fixtures of the national and A team tours have been finalized. Two series will be played at the same time simultaneously. There will have a chance for us to try out the best possible and the next possible players through the A team series,” he revealed.

“We’ll play Test series first and then ODI matches. Finally we’ll play T20Is which will be held in Florida. Before going into the main series, we’ll also play two practice matches. For this, we’ll go there a few days before the start of the West Indies tour. We’ll get enough time to be prepared ourselves in the Caribbean Islands,” he said

“Sri Lanka A team will come here to play against us. Mostly our performers at domestic league will get chance to play for us. We’ve a good number of games ahead. We needed to be ready our players for those games,” he added.

This former captain said that Bangladesh ‘A’ team will be formed with the combination of the national-dropped players and promising future players.
