An inspector of Detective Branch of police was killed in a reported gunfight with criminals at Middle Pirerbagh in the capital's Mirpur area yesterday, reports UNB. The deceased was identified as Md Jalaluddin, inspector of Detective Branch of police. A source of DB police said tipped-off that a gang of criminals is gathering firearms, a team of DB's Pallabi Zone conducted a drive in a three-storey building in the area around 10:30pm on Monday.
At one stage of drive, criminals opened fire targeting the detectives, prompted them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight, leaving Md Jalaluddin injured with bullet on his head, said Proloy Kumar Joarder, deputy commissioner of special action group of Counter Terrorism Unit.
The injured was taken to Square Hospitals where he succumbed to his injuries around 2am.
Criminals fled away through the backside of the building.
However, police detained four people from the house for interrogation.
Commissioner of Dhaka Metro-politan Police (DMP) Asaduzzaman Miah visited the spot around 1am.
While talking to reporters, the DMP commissioner said it is not clear whether the house is a 'militant hideout' or people lived in here are involved in criminal activities.
Later, he went to Square Hospitals to see the inspector.
