ACC gives clean chit to Haji Selim
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday gave clean chit to independent lawmaker and Dhaka city unit Awami League Joint Secretary, Haji Mohammad Selim, saying that it did not find any substance in the allegation levelled against him of building houses by encroaching upon government land.
The ACC Secretary, Maksudul Hasan Khan, sent a signed letter to this effect informing the concerned authorities, including the cabinet secretary and senior secretaries in the public administration department and the parliament secretariat.
Though, the commission absolved Haji Selim in the public property encroachment case after an investigation lasting four years, the ACC is still pursuing the charge against him of amassing wealth illegally.
Sources in the ACC said that Syed Kashem Ali owned a building located on the Green Road in the capital before independence. Later, her only daughter, Syeda Nahida Kashem Ali, inherited the property. The building (5, Green Square) was being used as a rest house by the Water Development Board after liberation. But in 1986, the Ministry of Housing and Public Works abandoned it due to its dilapidated condition.
In 1992, a person called Mohammad Shafiqullah filed a case claiming his right to the property.
