Ansarullah death threats to �4 more�

Four noted citizens, including Ekushey Award winner educationist Prof Anupam Sen, received death threats allegedly from banned Islamist outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) yesterday.
The other threat recipients are Rana Dasgupta, International Crimes Tribunal prosecutor, former general secretary of Chittagong Bar Association and additional public prosecutor Ashok Kumar Das, and assistant secretary of Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad Chandan Biswas, also an additional public prosecutor.
The outfit sent the threat to the four through mobile phone text messages. Ashok and Chandan received the threat from a same cell phone number (01876214694) yesterday morning.
Contacted, Ashok said he received an SMS stating, “Mr you and your family our next target from tomorrow, and next target Dr Anupam Sen and Rana Dasgupta. Ansarullah Bangla Team.”
“I think, I am conducting many cases against militant outfits, that’s why they have threatened me,” said Ashok.
Prof Sen told this correspondent that he did not receive any direct threat and that Ashok notified him about the text message he (Ashok) received from an unknown number.
Contacted, Rana Dasgupta also said that he did not receive any such threat. He, however, said he received such threats before and that he was not worried over the matter.
Chandan said he also received a death threat from the same phone number at 7:35am.
Ashok has already lodged a general diary with Kotwali Police Station in this connection.
Md Jasim Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station, said they were probing the matter seriously.
On August 8, eminent sculptor Ferdousi Priyabhashini received death threats from an unknown caller. However, none claimed the responsibility.
