HC circuit bench in Ctg mulled: CJ

Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha yesterday said the authorities concerned are seriously considering the proposal to set up a circuit bench of the High Court in the port city. He said this at a view-exchanging meeting with lawyers at the Chittagong Bar Association.
“The erstwhile circuit bench of the High Court (HC) in Chittagong was withdrawn for being in conflict with the Constitution. It might take some time to set up a new bench here. Other Divisions of the country, including Sylhet, Rajshahi and Barisal, are also raising the same demand. Government high ups have been asking me about this matter. At this moment, however, I don't want to say anything confirmatory regarding the matter,” said the Chief Justice.
“I shouldn't give any unnecessary commitment. I don't want to make prior announcement for mere applause. I'll consider setting up the bench after discussing the issue with the Prime Minister and senior judges. Although it might take some time, I'm very sincere about this,” he added.
Earlier, Sinha inspected the judicial activities of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal as well as different courts under district and metropolitan judges.
