The first annual robotics festival, arranged by “MIST Robotics Club” , was held recently at the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), in the capital.
Some 200 students and teachers came to watch the robots fight each other, listen to innovative ideas from future engineers and see their poster presentations. The programme was started with the speech of the chair GP Capt. Mohammed Hossam-E-Haider. Sudoku Magazine Editor, Journalist Nadim Majid was also there as a special guest and delivered an inspiring speech. The programme was covered by Raihan Chowdhury of Mechanical department.
Six posters were presented by students from different departments. There were posters like powering electronic device using piezoelectric vibration energy harvesters, highly maneuverable underwater robot on the basis of quad copter and so forth. Then there was this idea presentation session. The most interesting part of the festival was the “ROBOFIGHT”. A total of ten participant robots tried to push one another from the arena for gaining points. After 30 minutes of fighting fiercely robot “Double Axe” remained undefeated.
Champion team Double Axe was led by Noor Mohammad Naim, where other team members were, Tashfiq Rahman and S. M. Faisal Rahman. The Runner Up team of Robofight was Unstoppable. This team was led by Ahad Bin Alam, where other team members were Mohammad Harunur Rashid, Iftekhar Sarwar, Saad Bin Munir and Aumit Paul. Md. Arshadul Karim’s poster was winner in poster presentation competition. Physical Challenge Handler, Idea was won in Interactive session and idea sharing contest.
Lecturer, Department of Electrical, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mobdiul said, “We have got some real talents here. What we have seen here today was not a Robofight, rather it was a promise of better and advanced future from our youngsters.”
This type of programme is very important for the development and patronage of innovative ideas. It also helps the students to explore and implement their wildest engineering imagination and to inspire the students all over the country, interested in science, technology and innovation more often.
