Barisal Metropolitan Police (BMP) yesterday suspended three police men of detective branch and took departmental action against five for torturing journalist Sumon Hasan, a camera person of private TV channel DBC News on March 13. Earlier they were closed to BMP police lines. Nasiruddin Mallik, assistant commissioner of detective branch of BMP, said Constable Masudur Rahmam Masud and Constable Rasell Parvez and Constable Abdur Rahim of DB BMP have been suspended on Thursday in this connection with the incident.
On the other hand, action was taken on Friday night against Sub Inspector Abul Bashar, Assistant Sub Inspector Swapan and Assistant Sub Inspector Abul Hossain, Constable Saiful Islam and Constable Maksudul Haq as they found guilty in the departmental probe report, AC (DB) of BMP added.
The three-member probe committee of BMP headed by Runa Laila, additional commissioner (DB), on Thursday night submitted report before the police commissioner.
The probe team after visiting the victim at the hospital, spot of the incident, talked with the witnesses found the incident of torturing on journalist Sumon Hasan as fact, police sources added. More tough departmental action would also be taken after receiving reply from the accused with evidences, assured S M Ruhul Amin, commissioner of BMP.
