Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) yesterday seized 50 gold bars from a toilet of Chittagong Shah Amanat International Airport. However, no one was detained over the incident. The gold bars weighing about 5kg were in abandoned in the toilet designated for the International passengers. CIID found the gold bars worth about Tk2.5 crore while conducting their regular patrol said CIID. CIID Deputy Director Ariful Islam said, “We conduct regular patrol in the airport. At around 11 am patrol team found the 50 gold bars wrapped with tape.”
Earlier on March 10 Chittagong Customs officials and CIID jointly seized 48 gold bars weighing about 5.56kg and worth about Tk2.07 crore and detained a passenger his alleged involvement with gold smuggling at Shah Amanat International Airport after conducting a search operation at a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines which came from Jeddah of Saudi Arabia and was waiting to leave for Dhaka.
