The price indices at the country’s twin bourses break the losing streak that had been continuing in the past three consecutive trading sessions because of low demand and dull activities in the market, reports BSS.
The bearish trend apparently ended yesterday as some investors came to the market to book shares of the companies whose prices fell to a lower level, creating scope of future profit-booking.
“Investors seem to have gotten back their buying interest on value stocks after three days of correction”, said Lanka Bangla Securities Limited (LBSL).
The activities of the investors resulted in price rise across the board when market saw a large number of issues closed higher after several days. Market ended strongly positive with 199 securities gaining among 308 issues traded.
The higher number of the gaining companies drove the broader index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) to recover the losses of the previous days. The DSEX closed 39.36 points up at 4763.88 while the blue-chip DS30 and the Shariah DSES following it to close up at 1825.00 and 1176.23 respectively.
Scrip-focused buying lowered the activities when the daily trade value fell by 17.21 per cent to Tk 348.82 crore and the volume declined by 13.32 percent to 9.09 crore shares.
BD Welding, NHFIL, Gemini Sea, Zaheen Spin and IBN Sina were the day’s top five advancing issues when the major sectors ended green, with pharmaceutical, textile and engineering performing better. Bank, cement, telecom and fuel and power were also among the investors’ high demand.
The new issue, Aman Feed, topped the losing issue while it suffered nearly 14 per cent loss though it maintained the top position of the turnover leaders. ATCSLGF, SEBL1stMF, NLI1stMF and NFML were the other major losers among the day’s 72 lagging issues.
Squire Pharmaceuticals, Emerald Oil, KBPPWBIL, UPGDCL and SPCL were among the five top turnover leaders of the session.
Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) returned to the green zone, with its CSCX advancing 58.33 point to finish the day at 8886.10. Out of the traded 242 securities, 160 closed higher, 59 lower and 23 remained unchanged.
Some 8.24 lakh shares worth Tk 28.29 crore changed hands on the day, which was mostly for sellers.
