Inflation slightly eases to 6.17pc in Aug

Country’s overall point to point inflation rate continues to ease as it came down to 6.17 per cent in August from 6.36 per cent in July.
Both food and non food inflation decline in August as the price of rice the main basket of the food item reduce in August compared to July this fiscal, planning minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said while releasing the monthly report on consumer price index (CPI).
He released the monthly CPI report at a press conference at NEC auditorium at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the city yesterday.
Mustafa Kamal said the inflation rate reduced mainly due to the receding price of rice in August.
Regarding the down trend of inflation rate in Bangladesh the planning minister said the stable exchange rate helped to reduce country’s inflation rate in August.
The CPI report said the food inflation rate reduced to 6.06 per cent in August while it was 6.07 per cent in July.
The non food inflation came down to 6.35 per cent in August while it was 6.80 per cent in July.
In rural areas the general point to point inflation rate declined to 5.76 per cent in August from 5.88 per cent in July.
In August the food and non food inflation in rural areas was 5.42 and 6.41 per cent in August while it was 5.43 and 6.69 per cent in July.
In urban areas the point to point general inflation came down to 6.94 per cent in August from 7.28 per cent in July.
The food and non food inflation in urban areas was 7.56 and 6.26 per cent in August while it was 7.58 and 6.96 per cent in July.
The analysis of inflation of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistic found that the price of lentil, egg, meat, vegetables, spices, and tobacco products inflated to 1.81 per cent compared in August while it was 1.95 per cent in July.
Among the non food item the house rent, price of furniture, household product, medical service charge, transport cost, and educational equipment increased in August that shows 0.07 per cent inflation while it was 1.25 per cent in July.
The average annual inflation rate reached to 6.29 per cent (August 2014 to August 2015) while it was 7.24 per cent (August 2013 to August 2014).
The point to point wage index was 128.59 and 129.33 percentage point in July and August and wage rate increased to 7.04 and 7.17 percentage point respectively.
