Protesting the vandalizing of three buses and demanding stoppage of plying of easy bikes (battery run three wheeler) on Meherpur-Kathuli and Mehepur-Mohajonpur roads, Meherpur Bus Owners Association called transport strike from yesterday morning in Meherpur district.
As a result, the passengers of different routes are facing difficulties.
Golam Rasul, General Secretary of Bus, Minibus Owners Association said, they held a meeting with the local administration along local MP Forhad Hossain on Monday in the office of the Deputy Commissioner in this regard and decided that the easy bike would ply from Meherpur to Noorpur on Meherpur-Mohajonpur road and Meherpur to Kayemkatar Crossing on Meherpur-Kathuli road. But the easy bike drivers without paying heed, vandalized three buses and tortured one bus owner on Tuesday.
He gave an ultimatum that plying of all kinds of transports including the long route coaches would be suspended for an indefinite period from Meherpur if the crisis are not solved. Sajjadul Anam, President, of the district Easy-bike Owners and Drivers Association said they had started movement a few days ago when their vehicles were faced obstacle by the bus owners association. He further said they had put barricade on two roads in demand of plying their easy-bikes. As a result, the bus workers got angry and vandalized some of their easy-bikes. Hamidul Alam, Superin-tendent of Police said the present situation would be solved through discussion with the two groups soon.
