Four ‘JMB’ put 5-day remand

Natore: A court here on Wednesday placed four suspected activists of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) on 5-day remand each, reports UNB. The remanded JMB men are—Anisur Rahman Anis, a resident of Arkandi village in Singraupazila, Shafikul Islam and Fazlur Rahman, residents of Chapapukur village in Bagatiparaupazila and JakirHossian, a resident of Kholabaria village in Naldangaupazila.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Rabiul Islam passed the order after sub-inspector Abu Sadad of Natore Detective Branch of Police and also investigation officer of the case produced them before to the court seeking 10-day remand plea.

Earlier,police in a three-hour drive arrested them from the house of Dubai expatriate Iqbal in Dighpatia area of Sadarupazila early Tuesday along with crude bombs, sharp weapons and zihadi books.

Man found dead in Chuadanga

Chuadanga: A youth was found dead in a water body at Kadipur village in Damurhuda upazila yesterday, reports UNB.

The deceased Tariqul Islam, 24, was a brick kiln worker and son of Khalilur Rahman of Gangpara village in the upazila.

Police said local people spotted the body of Tariqul in a water body and sent it to local hospital morgue.

There was an enmity between Tariqul’s family and a local group over a trifling matter and the miscreants might have strangled Tariqul to death over the issue and dumped the body here, said Akram Hossain, officer-in-charge of Damurhuda Model Police Station.

16 Bangladeshis held at Benapole

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested 16 Bangladeshi nationals, including seven women and three children, from Daulatpur border here on Thursday noon.

The arrestees hail from different areas of Bagerhat, Khulna and Barisal.

Lt Col Ariful Haque, commanding officer of BGB-49 battalion, said tipped off, a team of BGB conducted a drive along the border and arrested them while they were returning to the country from India without valid document.

They were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station.

A case was filed.

2 held with arms in Jessore

Police arrested two people along with two shutter guns in separate incidents at Subornakhali village in Sharsha upazila on Wednesday.

Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive at the village and arrested Shahidul Islam, 38, son of Ramjan Ali of Shonadia village along with a shutter gun at noon, said Tasmim Alam, officer-in-charge of Sharsha Police Station.

In another incident, police also arrested Mintu Hossain, 28, son of Nabir Uddin of Shikarpur village with a gun from the bordering area of the upazila in the afternoon, said the OC. Both the arrestees had long been involved in arms trading, said police.

Two separate cases were filed.
