Juba League activist among three arrested
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Tuesday night arrested three people, including an activist of ruling party backed Juba League, in connection with taking away good forcibly from the Hazrat Shajalal International Airport on August 10.
The arrested were identified as mastermind Badrul Alam Shamol, 37, his brother Fakrul Alam Prince,33 and Ashifuzzaman Papon, 26. Talking to The Independent, Lt Col Tuhin Mohammad Masud said getting secret information, a team of RAB raided at Provatibagh in the capitals Khilgaon area around 11:50pm and arrested them.
Efforts are also on to capture the remaining other criminals, he also said. The criminals were arrested after scrutinising the video footage of the attack, Lt Col Tuhin said. During the primary interrogation, they admitted that they were importing smuggled goods and were taking these from the customs officials of the airport for long times without submitting any papers.
According to RAB, this criminals group led by Shyamol in the name of a political party took away huge amount of electronic products, medicine and other goods after carrying out attack on customs officials at Customs Cargo Complex Unit at airport on August 8 and 10. A customs official was injured in the attack.
On August 11, Shahjahan Ali, assistant revenue official of customs, filed a case with Airport police station in this connection. Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police also arrested seven persons including another Juba League leader Jashim Uddin Tapader few days ago and Airport Thana BCL leader Yasin Miah was suspended from the organisation for his alleged involved with the incident.
On May 18, this smuggler group attacked on an assistant customs commissioner after he seized smuggled goods of the syndicate Earlier on July 28, the gang threatened to severe hands of an assistant customs commissioner.
DB also seized two smuggled luxurious cars from his Siddeshori residence in the capital.
RAB and DB alleged that under the cover of CNF and courier business, Shyamol is mainly involved in different types of smuggling including gold.
