Tenth-grader set to lose eyesight

Tamima Akter, a tenth-grader of Charkazol Secondary School of Golachipa Upazila in Patuakhali, is struggling to get back her eyesight which was severely hurt with a pen thrown by her English teacher. Tamima is the daughter of Anwar Hossain of Charkajol Bazar area of the Golachipa upazila and the teacher was identified as Sabbir Ahmed Nobel. According to the female student’s family on Tuesday, Tamima’s English teacher Sabbir Ahmed got angry in private coaching and threw his pen at her. The pen had struck her in her left eye and started bleeding. When she was then taken to Barisal Eye Hospital but the doctors referred her to Dhaka Eye Hospital for better treatment.

Meanwhile, locals and guardians become agitated by the behavior of the schoolteacher Nobel and protested at his behaviour forming a human chain which was attended by fellow students, guardians and the conscious section of the society. From the rally they demanded justice for Tamima and removal of teacher responsible for the inhuman assault.

When contacted for his comments the English teacher Sabbir Ahmed Nobel did not receive any phone call.
