Three muggers held
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested three alleged criminals from Mirpur area of the capital on Tuesday night in connection with snatching goods from Shahjalal International Airport after beating customs officials.
The arrestees were Badrul Alam Shyamol, gang leader of Shyamol Bahini, and his two associates Prince and Papon.
Rab sources said a team of the elite force conducted a drive in Benarashi Palli area of Mirpur around 11:55pm and arrested them.
On August 10, a gang of muggers looted goods worth Tk one crore from cargo village of the airport after beating customs officials.
14 BNP men jailed in Sylhet
A Sylhet court on Tuesday sent 14 BNP leaders and activists to jail after rejecting their bail petitions in a case filed for vandalising vehicles.
Jakiganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Khairul Amin passed the order when the BNP leaders and activists appeared before his court.
Jakiganj upazila BNP unit president Helal Ahmad Chowdhury and organising secretary Hasan Ahmad, former union parishad chairman Nasir Ahmad, municipality BNP unit general secretary Abdus Sakur and organising secretary Abul Kalam Sagar, municipality Chhatra Dal convener Samsuddoha and Saleh Ahmad were among those sent to jail.
The court also rejected the bail petitions of the 14 BNP men when their lawyers filed separate petitions seeking bail for them.
Three pirates held
Bangladesh Coast Guard arrested three sea pirates and recovered huge booty from them from outer anchorage of Chittagong Port yesterday.
The arrested youths were pirates group leader Ilias Ali, 39, his associates Mohammad Yunus, 37 and Uttom Biswas, 33. A case was filed with Patenga thana in this connection.
Hazrat Shahjalals urs Friday
The annual urs of great saint of Hazrat Shahjalal (R) will begin at his shrine in Sylhet city on Friday.
All preparations already have been completed to celebrate the holy urs. Every year shrine authority organised the urs in befitting manner. During the urs, devotees from different areas of the country came to the shrine to join the religious event. It will be the 696th annual urs of Hazrat Shahjalal, said Mutawalli of Shahjalal Dorga Mosque Fathe Ulla Al Aman.
Bangladesh NDC team in India A 23-member delegation of National Defence College (NDC) of Bangladesh is on an overseas study tour in India from August 31 to December 4, 2015 as part of course curriculum.
The delegation included senior officers from bureaucrats, military, and police including five foreign course members from four countries --China, Myanmar, Nigeria and Sri Lanka.
