Five arrested in Gazipur

A man allegedly killed his wife by throwing her into a water-body from a boat at Titarkul Bazar area of Gazipur city on Tuesday night.
The deceased was identified as Beauty Akter, 28, daughter of Abdul Mazid Akanda of Uttarora village under Ghior upazila in Manikganj district.
However, police arrested deceased’s husband and his four associates for their involvement with the incident. They were identified as Beauty’s husband Salim Miah, 28, of Jolarpar in the city, Mamun Siddiquee, 28, of West Joydebpur, Rubel, 28, of Lakshmipura, Shakil, 16, of Bhurolia in Gazipur and Liton Miah, 30, of Dhakeshwary area in Narayanganj.
Officer in charge of Joydebpur police station Khandoker Rezaul Hasan Reza said Beauty, a Baul singer, was married to Salim Miah about 22 months ago. They would often locked in altercation over Beauty’s profession. Salim is an employee of a clothing show room “Utshab” of Joydebpur bazaar. On Tuesday, he rented an engine boat with the help of his colleague Shakil and went to Pubail along with his wife and others associates. On the way back, Salim locked in altercation with his wife and beat her up. At one stage, Salim, with the help of his associates threw her into the water of Belai Beel while they reached Titarkul area at around 11.30pm. The boatman Shah Alam informed the incident to the local people over mobile phone.
Later, locals caught Salim and his four associates from the spot and handed them over to police. But they did not find the body of Beauty after searching at night. On information, a team of fire service from Tongi rushed to the spot yesterday morning and recovered the body. The body was sent to Gazipur Shahid Taj Uddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Police suspected that it was a pre-planed killing. No case was filed till filling this report at around 3pm yesterday.
