Teachers continue protest

SUST gets four new provosts

The teachers, who were ‘assaulted’ by the BCL activists on Sunday, of Shahjalal Univesity of Science and Technology (SUST)  observed a three hours work abstention yesterday from 11am as a part of three –day- long pre-scheduled programme.
They also organised a rally wearing black badges following a procession that was brought out from the teachers’ canteen. They paraded the whole campus and ended in front of the administrative building where a protest rally was held.
On the other hand, the office head forum of the university will observe work abstention today for two hours protesting the attack and demanding exemplary punishment of them involved with the attack.
The heads of the offices are Registrar Mohammad Ishfaqul Hussain, Office of the Inspection of College chief Prodip Kumar Basak, Accounts Office chief Zoinal Abedin, Office of the Planning and Development chief Mollah Akbar Hossain, Office of the Controller of Examinations chief Mujibur Rahman, Engineering Office chief Syed Habibur Rahman, Medical Centre chief Md Mahbub Ahmed and Office of the Physical Education chief Chowdhury Saud bin Ambia.
A press release signed by convener of the office forum Zoinal Abedin yesterday said, they will abstain from work in protest the attack on teachers.
Meanwhile, Vice-chancellor Aminul Haque Bhuyan appointed four new provosts for four residential halls for the university.
They are Md Muhshin Aziz Khan, Prof of Industrial and production Engineering (IPE) Department at Shahporan Hall; Dr, Sharadindu Bhattachrjee, Prof of Bangla Department at Syed Mujtaba Ali Hall; Amina Pervin, Associate Prof of Social Work Department at 1st Ladies Hall and Shareefa Yasmeen, Associate Prof of English Department at Begum Sirajunnesa Chowdhury Hall ave been appointed as hall provosts respectably for next three years. And Nahid Sultana, a lecturer of Statistics Department was also appointed as an assistant Provost of Begum Sirajunnesa Chowdhury Hall.
Separates official orders signed by university Registrar Mohammam Ishfaqul Hussain sent to the newly appointed provosts and the provosts, who were on charge, were relieved from their duties and asked them to resign, also said the office orders.
