A doctor was picked up by members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from his residence adjacent to his private clinic in front of Barisal Police Line in the city on Tuesday noon and later released on an undertaking in the evening.
RAB sources said they detained Dr Harun-or-Rashid, health officer of Nalchity upazila health complex under Jhalakathi district, for interrogating on charge of faulty treatment affecting patients.
Md Russell, son-in-law of Dr Harun, said that some plainclothes men identifying themselves as members of RAB-8 picked up Dr Harun from Rowshan Ara Memorial Clinic on Tuesday noon.
At that time, a nurse of the clinic received a slap from a member of the elite force as she challenged their action.
Abdur Rouf, deputy commissioner of Barisal Metropolitan Police, said, “After receiving allegation of abduction from the family members of Dr Harun, we made an inquiry and found that RAB took him into their custody.”
Colonel Fariduddin, commander of RAB-8, said Dr Harun was detained by them for interrogation upon receipt of different allegations from the people affected by his treatment.
He was later released from RAB custody after giving a written undertaken that he will examine patients with the utmost care next time.
