DU VC for conducting joint research on microbiology
Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University (DU) Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman urged researchers to take collaborative research initiatives with industrial institutions on microbiology.
He came up with the call while addressing a daylong conference on microbiology on the DU campus.
The Department of Microbiology of the university with support from Bangladesh Society of Microbiologist (BSM) organised the conference at its auditorium.
Akhtaruzzaman formally inaugurated the conference as the chief guest. The theme of the conference was 'Challenges and Innovations in Controlling Microbiological Hazards'.
Underscoring the need for carrying out more researches on microbiology, the DU VC said industrial institutions should strengthen relations with the country's universities aiming to launch joint research programmes on microbiology.
Over 250 researchers and teachers took part in the conference and shared their experience and research findings on microbiology.
Chaired by convener of the conference Prof Dr Md Mozammel Huq, the
meeting was addressed, among others, by acting dean of the Biological Science Faculty Prof Mihir Lal Saha and Dr Mohammad Aminul Islam, an associate scientist of icddr,b.
Seminar on Arabic language held at IU
KUSHTIA: An international seminar on ‘Historical and linguistic features of Arabic language’ held at Islamic University (IU) on the campus yesterday.
The University Arabic Language and Literature department organised the programme at Bir Shrestho Hamidur Rahman auditorium around 11am.
IU Vice-Chancellor Prof M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari attend the programme as the chief guest and its treasurer Prof M Selim Toha was the special guest while Prof Mhabubor Rhaman of the department in the chair.
Prof Kamrul Hasan conducted the event with Dr M Isharat Ali Mollah, Professor of Kolkata University, addressed as the keynote speaker and Prof M Ali Monwar Ali attend here.
IU English dept celebrates silver jubilee
The English department of the Islamic University observed its silver jubilee anniversary on the campus in Kushtia on Saturday amid festive mood and much enthusiasm.
Marking the day, the teachers, former and present students, officers and staff of the department brought out a colourful rally from in front of the university's arts faculty building in the morning.
Around one thousand teachers and students of the department took part in the rally while Professor M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari, vice-chancellor of IU, inaugurated the event releasing pigeon and balloons.
A discussion programme was also held at Birshrestha Hamidur Rahman Auditorium of the university.
The vice-chancellor of IU was present at the programme as chief guest while pro-VC Professor M Shahinoor Rahman and IU treasurer Professor M Selim Toha attended it as special guests with Professor AHM Aktarul Islam Zillu, chairman of English department, in the chair.
Later, a sports competition, raffle draw and a cultural function were also held at the auditorium.
