Mash, Shakib wish Tigers from home

Sports Reporter

While the fans went on berserk following Bangladesh’s epic win over Sri Lanka in the Nidahas Trophy Tri-nation T20 International series, the players who were not part of that match also came up with special message.

ODI captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Test and T20 captain Shakib Al Hasan who missed the tournament due to his finger injury were to the fore in wishing the team.

Mashrafe was offered to join the T20 captain, breaking his retirement decision but the fast bowler turned down it. Therefore he had no regrets to be part of such a great victory, however in case of Shakib it was unfortunate that the regular skipper couldn’t make a wild celebration like his teammates in Colombo Premadasa Stadium.

Shakib who returned country from Australia yesterday after an advanced treatment for his finger injury took his social media handle to reveal his regret while congratulating the team.

“Congrats to my team mates on chasing down a record breaking score,” he wrote. “Wishing all the best for the upcoming matches. Missing out on the celebrations. Nevertheless a great win for us to aspire us for more alike.”

Bangladesh gunned down Sri Lanka’s massive total of 214 with two balls to spare, in what was the fourth highest chase in the T20 International history. Bangladesh now holds the record of highest chase amongst the Asian team also, bettering India who chased down 207 earlier against Sri Lanka.

Mushfiqur Rahim led the side, playing a astonishing 35 ball-72 unbeaten as he defied his hamstring injury.

As soon as the team recorded such a groundbreaking victory, Mashrafe was emotion-choked and wrote: “May the red and green keep flying relentlessly. May your wings cut down.”
