Various government and non-government development organisations yesterday observed the International Women's Dayb efittingly in Rajshahi, barisal and other metroploitam cities with a vow to free the womenfolk from all sorts of violence, disparity and discrimination.
BSS adds from Rajshahi, marking the day, district administration and department of women affairs organised a human chain and street-corner meeting in Bilshimla area in the city.
Local unit Awami Leaders Shaheen Akhter, Prof Zinatunnessa Talukder and Morzina Parveen, Deputy Commissioner SM Abdul Kader, Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Abdur Razzaque and District Women Affairs Officer Shobnom Shirin addressed the meeting.
Various development organisations including Bangladesh Mohila Parishad, Association for Community Development (ACD), Ladies Organisation for Social Welfare and Action for Disability and Development observed the day.
A huge procession was brought out from Alupatti crossing which paraded the
main thoroughfares of the city carrying banners and festoons. The procession
converged into an hour-long human chain at Shaheb Bazar crossing.
Khulna district administration, Department of Women Affairs and government-non government women department and different volenteers women organisations jointly organised different programmes marking the day.
The programmes included colourful procession, discussion meeting, quiz and sports competetion, folksong, five-day women development fair, cultural function and oath for women to break darkness.
The procession brought out from city's Shahid Hadith Park that paraded main streets of the city. OUR Staff Reporter adds from Barisal: Marking the day, local NGOs organized a programme on Ashwini Kumar hall premises. Victims Support Centre of Barisal Metropolitan police also arranged a event on the occasion yesterday morning aimed to give more service to the repression victim women. A discussion was also held at the centre point with Assistant Commissioner of BMP Shahnaz Begum in the chair.
