A Dhaka court put Shafiul Bari Babu, president of Swechhasebak Dal, on a 7-day remand in a violence case filed with Shahbag Police Station, reports UNB.
The court also put 11 leaders and activists of Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal on a 3-day remand each. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge Sadbir Yasmin Ahsan Chowdhury passed the order after the investigation officer of the case Sub-inspector Amal Bishnu Deb produced the accused before the court seeking remand.
Police arrested Shafiul Bari and the others from the National Press Club during a sit-in programme of BNP demanding release of its chairperson Khaleda Zia on Thursday.
The case statement said the accused locked into argument with law enforcers when they prevented the protesters from obstructing vehicular movement on road in front of the National Press Club.
