A suspected robber was killed and four others were injured in a gunfight with police in Munshipara area of the city early yesterday.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Acting on secret information that a gang of robbers was taking preparation to commit robbery in Munshipara graveyard area, a team of police conducted a drive, said Babul Mia, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on them, prompting them to retaliate, triggering the gunfight. At one stage a suspected robber was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot.
After the gunfight, four bullet-injured men were arrested from the spot.
