State Minister for Labour and Employment Md Mujibul Haque yesterday said the present government is pledge-bound to ensure a child labour-free safe workplace for labourers, reports BSS.
"The garment industry is now free from child labour and the government is working to free hazardous jobs from child labour by 2021 and all workplaces by 2025 to attain the target 8.7 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)," he said, speaking at a workshop in city's CIRDAP auditorium.
Ministry of Labour and Employment organised the workshop to finalise the master plan to attain the SDGs 2030, said an official release.
International Labour Organization (ILO) Consultant Dr Habibur Rahman presented a key-note paper while Secretary-in-Charge of Labour and Employment Ministry Afroza Khan was in the chair.
Planning Commission Member (senior secretary) Dr Shamsul Alam and ILO Representative Snehal Sonezi, among others, addressed the workshop. Haque said the present government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken many initiatives to ensure safe work environment for the labourers.
