The government is taking tougher steps to halt illegal migration through sea which will open up a greater scope for legal migration from Bangladesh to foreign destinations, including Thailand, said Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam BSc, reports UNB. During his recent Thailand visit, the minister also said the government is committed to ensuring legal migration at affordable cost and with dignity. The purpose of his visit was to expedite the process of recruiting Bangladeshi workers in Thailand by tapping the potential, according to a message received here yesterday from Bangladesh Embassy, Thailand.
Nurul Islam, during his two-day visit, also discussed the recruitment issue with the leaders of Thailand Employment Association and Manpower Recruitment Association of Thailand.
Later, in an opinion-exchange meeting in Bangkok, the minister said the government wants to utilize each expatriate as Bangladesh’s goodwill Ambassador to brighten its image abroad. Bangladesh Ambassador to Thailand Saida Muna Tasneem was also present.
The Bangladesh Embassy in Bangkok arranged the discussion with Bangladeshi expatriates at a local hotel.
Appreciating expatriate Bangladeshis’ role in Bangladesh’s socioeconomic development, Nurul Islam urged the expatriates will brighten Bangladesh’s image in Thailand with their work, merits, wisdom and decency. Many Bangladeshis are engaged in various professions in Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket and other cities.
The minister requested the Bangladeshis living there to help each other in their need, and urged them to send remittance through the formal channel.
He assured them of resolving their problems in many places, including the airport and other service-providing agencies, through coordinated efforts, and ensuring their security on their arrival in Dhaka.
Bangladesh Ambassador Tasneem said she would take initiatives to open a branch of Bangladeshi public bank in Thailand so that Bangladeshis can send their remittance smoothly and legally.
