Charges for NID services from today
People who want to get services relating to national identity (NID) cards will have to pay fees of particular amounts from today (Tuesday).
NID card holders had been getting the services free of cost since 2009. But from now on, correction of names, replacement for loss or damage of cards will cost them.
However, National Identity Registration Wing sources said they have not done anything new to provide improved services to hundreds of people visiting the Wing everyday.
The Election Commission fixed the fees, which would vary between Tk. 100 and Tk. 1,000 depending on the service.
The fee for renewal of NID card is Tk. 100, and those seeking emergency delivery will have to pay Tk. 150.
If the card is lost or damaged, a replacement will come at a cost of Tk. 200 for the first time, and Tk. 300 will be charged for emergency delivery. A person will have to pay Tk. 300 for the second time, and Tk. 500 for emergency service. Subsequently, the fee will be Tk. 500 and Tk. 1,000 for emergency delivery. For correction of data and information, the fee for the first time will be Tk. 100, Tk. 200 for the second time and Tk. 300 for subsequent services.
On June 21, the Election Commission issued a gazette notification fixing the charges relating to NID services. According to the gazette, a person can pay the fee through treasury chalan or pay order or bank draft to the Secretary, National Commission, or any particular mobile or online banking recommended by the Commission.
Md Sirajul Islam, secretary of the Election Commission, told The Independent that the charges will be applicable from September 1.
As per the previous gazette, persons who want to get services relating to NID will have to pay fees or charges from September 1. It was free till August 31, he said. The secretary said persons would have to pay the fee to any branch of Sonali Bank under the code 1-0601-0001-1847-National Identity Card Fee. People can also pay through online banking at Sonali Bank.
