RMG factory closed indefinitely in Gazipur

Workers got agitated seeing a notice on its closure for an indefinite period

The authorities of Keya Knit Composit Factory, a RMG unit of Keya Group, shut the factory for an indefinite period over worker unrest. Workers got agitated seeing a notice on the factory closure yesterday. The authorities put up a notice in front of the factory situated at Jarun area of the city on Monday morning. In the notice they said the decision was taken to close the factory to protect the assets and considering the safety of innocent workers at the factory.
According to the factory sources, 47 workers of different sections of the factory were suspended after the Eid as they violated the rules of factory, irregularities in duties, insufficient production and disobey the orders of factory officials.
They also served notices to 10 workers for same allegations. A seven member committee was formed to probe into matter. The committee called the workers to present before the committee, but the workers did not pay any heed about it. On the other hand, some colleagues of suspended workers demanded to re-appoint them in their job. They threatened for movement over the issue and tried to create disturbance inside of the factory.
They created pressure to the others workers of different section to stop production. On Saturday, workers observed work abstention. At one stage, they attacked Assistant General Manager of Keya Spinning Mill Asaduzzaman and others officials and assaulted them.
Managing director of Keya Group Abdul Khaleque Pathan said some workers of the factory with the help of their associates from outside were trying to hamper the working environment of the factory and creating chaotic situation. As a result, we were bound to take decision for closure of the factory to avoid losses and for the safety of innocent workers of the factory.
On the other hand, the workers of the factory said the authorities served show-cause notices against some workers without any fault of them. Beside, they suspended 47 workers after Eid vacation. Workers said we demanded the authorities to re-appoint the suspended workers, but they refused to meet it up.
On Monday morning, the workers found the notice about the decision of authorities. They expressed their dissatisfaction about authority’s declaration.
Sub inspector of Konabari police outpost Mobarak Hossain said additional police were deployed in the factory area to control any untoward situation.
