The railway employees of East Zone yesterday staged a demonstration on the premises of General Manager’s (East Zone) office protesting the alleged assault on a railway employee. The railway employees under the banner of Bangladesh Railway Traffic Karmachari Oikkya Parishad demanded exemplary punishment to person responsible the incident. The employees also submitted a memorandum to the general manager and threatened to go for tougher progreammes if Anwar Hossain Raja, the assaulter is not arrested within 72 hours.
With Sayeed Khokon, president of Bangladesh Railway (BR) Traffic Karmachari Oikkya Parishad in the chair, the protest rally was addressed, by general secretary Abdus Salam Bhuiyan, Mohsin Talukder, Sazzad Hossain and Mohammad Sujon, among others. The agitators in the rally alleged that Abdullah Al Mamun, assistant commercial officer (ACO) of Bangladesh Railway (West Zone) was checking tickets from the passengers on Titumir Express Train on August 25.
However, some of them failed to show tickets. Identifying themselves as associates of one Anwar Hossain Raja, they said that they did not need to buy ticket. Later, the ACO compelled them to buy tickets for travelling on the train. Following that a group of ‘miscreants’ barged into the room of Rajshahi Station Master and manhandled the railway officials.
