Two more enterprises show interest to be part of BPL

Sports Reporter

Two more enterprises showed their interest to be the part of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), after the deadline of providing the financial guarantee ended, said tournament’s governing council chairman Afzalur Rahman Sinha.
The veteran cricket organiser however didn’t disclose the name of the two houses but said one of them is the out of 11 new companies who submitted the Expression of Interest (EOI) while another is out of them.
A total of five enterprises provided the pay-order and bank guarantee worth Tk. 5.50 crore within the scheduled deadline on last Sunday. Sinha revealed that they would organise the BPL, slated to be held on November 25 to December 25, with the five houses if they don’t get any suitable candidate.
“We have already got five enterprises for the next BPL. Another two companies are communicating with us and request to give them some time,” Sinha told the reporters yesterday.
“Of them, one is among the eleven aspirant enterprises and other is out of the aspirants. But we didn’t take any final decision regarding them. We will take our decision after consulting with our board president,” he added without disclosing the name of the interested companies.
BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon, MP, is now in abroad for business purpose and will come back ahead of the next board meeting to be held in the first week of September.
“We wanted to get at least seven enterprises. But we got five including the two old companies within the deadline. We are not worried. We have no problem to start the new edition with the five enterprises if we don’t get any furthermore,” he revealed.
A total of 11 new aspirant companies including Country’s leading corporate house BEXIMCO, Mediacom (Square), Sohana Group of Industries, BBS Cables, DBL Group, Fiber @Home Limited, Blues Communication, Bengal Communication, Networld BD, Axiom Technologies and Index Group along with Sylhet Royals, Rangpur Riders earlier submitted the EOI.
Another old franchise Barisal Burners on the other hand offered BCB to clear the dues in installment to which the board was not so keen while the other franchisees were silent so far.
There are allegations from some aspirants that they could not dare to spend too many bucks without getting any complete guideline from the BPL governing council. For this they couldn’t pay the necessary money to be the new franchisee for the BPL. But BCB media committee chairman Jalal Younus said that they have sent a concept paper to each aspirant company, where everything is written clearly.
On other hand, BCB cricket operation chairman Naimur Rahman Durjoy, who took the responsibility to clear the payment of the players by discussing with the old franchisees, has already set a guideline to give the players unpaid amount before the Eid.
According to the guideline, the players however would get only their base price to which the players also complied. The base price of Shakib Al Hasan in the second edition of the BPL was US$ 75,000 but he was sold out to Dhaka Gladiators who won the tie-break to buy him with the staggering price of US$ 365000. He will now get only US$ 75000.
The BCB however will induct a ‘players by choice’ system in which the players will be divided into three categories. The price of the players will also be determined by BCB.
