Four gamblers jailed

A mobile court yesterday convicted four gamblers and sentenced them to 15 days imprisonment.
The convicts are Faruk Hossein 25, Based Ali 30, Afizer Rahman, 28 and Akbar Ali, 35, all of them hailed of Kutamara village under Debiganj upazila in the district.
The mobile court, led by upazila nirbahi officer of Debiganj Md Safiqul Islam along with a team of police, raided Kutamara bamboo grave and arrested them when they were playing cards.
 The court also seized Tk 420 in cash and two bundles of cards from their possession.  Later, the court pronounced the verdict.

72 arrested in Jessore
JESSORE: Police arrested 72 people including two workers of Jamaat and BNP on various charges from different areas of eight upazilas of the district, reports BSS.
Police conducted raid in different areas of eight upazilas from Sunday night to yesterday morning.
Among the arrested persons one is BNP activist and another is Jamaat activist.
The arrestees were engaged in destructive activities. Cases were also pending against them with different police stations.
All of them were produced before Jessore court and the court has sent them to jail.

239 turtles seized
Benapole: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive seized 239 rare species of turtles from Baropota bordering area here yesterday, reports UNB.
Tipped off, a team of BGB-23 raided the area and seized the turtles worth Tk 20 lakh in an abandoned condition at noon.
However, none was arrested as the smugglers managed to flee sensing the presence of the border guards.
The seized turtles were handed over to Jessore Forest Department.
