IU extends MPhil, PhD registration deadline

Kushtia: The authority of Islamic University (IU) extended the deadline of registration for MPhil and PhD programme under the academic session 2017-18, said an IU press release yesterday.

Application form for the programme will be available till March 20 instead  of February 20 and it will be submitted until March 28, the release added.

The previous condition for registration will remain unchanged.

Shadow UN conference begins at RU Mar 1

RU Model United Nation Association (RUMUNA) will organised a 4-day ‘UN shadow conference-2018’ at Rajshahi University (RU) from March 1 to 4.

Its secretary Sujon Mahmud and advisor and former general secretary of RU Teacher’s Association Prof Dr Shah AzazmShantonu confirmed the matter though a press conference that was held yesterday on university Teachers Launch.

Besides, debates, seminars and conferences programme with the title of ‘Combining Inhumanity, Prolonging Global Peach’ will be held at TSC.

Around 300 participants from 45 institutions including Dhaka University, Jahangirnagar University, Chittagong University, North South University, have completed their registration process to attend the programme.

Besides, around twelve students from Napal and India have expected to present on the programme, they added on the conference.

Former high commissioner to United Kingdom of Bangladesh and also former vice-chancellor of RU Prof Sayedur Rahman, Abhijit Chattopadhyay, assistant high commissioner in Assistant High Commission of India in Rajshahi, has expected to present as chief guest and special guest respectively.

RUMUNA was established in 2013, is an academic simulation of the United Nations with a view to educating the participants about effective communication; globalization and multilateral diplomacy.

Cultural event marking Int’l Mother Language Day held

The Bangla Language Institute (BLI) at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), organised a cultural event ‘Celebrating Ekushey’ marking the Shaheed Dibash and International Mother Language Day on IUB campus at Bashundhara in the capital on Sunday, says a press release.

The event was participated by the foreign students and organised with the support from the American Centre, US Embassy, Dhaka.

BLI at IUB offers Bangla as a foreign language in an immersion environment. They cater to the needs of international students, researchers, scholars, diplomats, the international business community and anyone interested in learning Bangla language.

Prof M Omar Rahman, Vice-chancellor, IUB, attended the programme as the chief guest. Among others, Kelly Ryan, Cultural Affairs Officer, the American Center, US Embassy, Dhaka and Sohan Salek, Alumni Outreach Coordinator were the special guests.

Reefat Munmun, BLI’s Center In-Charge, delivered the welcome speech and conducted the programme.

The event consisted of a variety of performances celebrating language including, recitation of poems, songs, dances, short plays.
