Two bullet-hit ‘robbers’ held
Police arrested two bullet-hit robbers after a gunfight in Ambaghan area under Khulshi police station in Chittagong on Sunday night.
The arrestees were Sheikh Farid and Yusuf. Humayun Kabir, additional superintendent of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP), said being tipped of that a gang of robbers was taking preparation to commit robbery in the area, a team of police conducted a drive. Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on police, prompting them to retaliate, triggering the gunfight, leaving the duo bullet injured.
Later, police arrested them while others managed to flee away. The arrestee Farid are accused in four cases while Yusuf in nine cases.
Youth found dead in Sylhet
A young man reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the pipe at a toilet in a hotel room at Zindabazar in sylhet on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Sazzadur Rahman, 30, son of late Abdul Ali, hailing from Jangail village in Jalalabad Police Station. Sazzad committed suicide by hanging himself with the pipe in his rented hotel room between 11am and 9pm, said Khokan Sarker, sub-inspector of Kotwali Police Station. He booked the hotel room around 11am and he was found hanging from the pipe after the door of the room was broken. Later, police recovered the hanging body around 9pm.
Doctor ‘commits suicide’
A physician allegedly committed suicide at his residence in Amirbagh residential area in Chittagong on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Faisal Emran, son of Emran Hossain of the area, said Assistant Sub-inspector Alauddin Talukdar of Chittagong Medical College (CMCH) Police Outpost. He hanged himself with the grill of a window at his house in the evening. Later, family members took Faisal to CMCH where doctors declared him dead at night, police said quoting relatives. After completing internship in Dhaka recently, Faisal had been staying at his residence. He was frustrated due to various reasons, said police adding that a case of unnatural death was filed in this connection.
7 held with 1.20 lakh yaba tablets
Seven suspected drug peddlers along with1 .20 contraband yaba tablets, a private car, 756 bottles of phensidyl and a covered van from the capital’s Basundhara residential and Bimanbandar thana areas.
“We arrested five persons and seized 1.20 lakh yaba tablets and a private car from their possessions in Bashundhara residential area around 3.30 am on Monday,” RAB-1 commander Lt Col Sarwar Bin Khashem told BSS.
In another drive, Armed Police Battalion personnel arrested two persons, Amzad Hossain and Conel Hossain along with 756 bottles of phensyidyl, and a covered van worth about Taka 37.80 lakh from in front of Shahjalal International Airport around 5.30 pm on Sunday.
