The Awami League-backed teachers’ panel ‘Bangabandhur Adarshe Shikkak Parishad’ won the Jahangirnagar University Teachers’ Association (JUTA) elections.
The panel, loyal to Vice-chancellor Prof Farzana Islam, bagged eight out of the 15 executive posts, including all the key positions.
The opponent panel ‘Bangabandhu Adarsha O Muktijuddhaer Chetanai Biswasi Pragatishil Shikkhak Samaj’, loyal to former VC Prof Shariff Enamul Kabir, got 7 posts. Meanwhile, BNP backed teachers did not give any candidates at the polls.
Prof Nurul Alam of Physics department and Prof Bashir Ahmed of Government and Politics department were elected as president and general secretary respectively.
