The Chittagong University (CU) authorities yesterday expelled its eight students for two years on charge of vandalism of the proctor office, attack on journalists and allegedly kidnapping a student of the university.
CU Proctor Md Ali Asgor Chowdhury, confirmed the news and said, “After investigation into the issues, we found their involvement. For this we expelled them for two years with the rules of Board of Residence Health and Disciplinary Committee.”
The students were identified as Anik Hossain Sabbir, former deputy financial affairs secretary of CU BCL and a student of management department, academic session 2014-2015, Shafiqul Islam, student of Institute of Modern Language, academic session 2014-2015, Yashin Arafat, student of Botany department, academic session 2014-2015 and Iftekhar Uddin Riaz, student of Institute of Modern Language, academic session 2015-2016. They were expelled for two years on charge of kidnapping a student named Sajik Khan for ransom.
All of them were known as activist of a group named “CFC” and follower of Rezaul Haque Rubel, former vice president of CU BCL. Others were identified as Saiful Islam Saif, a student of public administration department, academic session 2011-2012, Md Lokman Hossain, student of economics department, academic session 2014-2015, Konok Saha Joy, student of Institute of Modern Language, academic session 2014-2015 and Mahfuchul Hasan, student of dramatics department, academic session 2014-2015.
They were expelled for two years on charge of vandalism of the office of the proctor and allegedly attacked on journalists. All of them were known as activist of a group named ‘Sixty Nine’ group and loyalists of Alamgir Tipu, former president of CU BCL unit. Md Ali Asgor Chowdhury, proctor of CU said, “We have asked them to submit a notice within seven working days, why they will not be expelled permanently.”
Mentionable, on February 22, BCL leader Anik Hossain Sabbir kidnapped a CU student named Sajik Khan for ransom. After ransom payment, Sajik was freed and filed a case with the Hathazari Police Station against five BCL men including Sabbir.
On the other hand, on February 20, a fraction of BCL allegedly attacked CU proctor office as well as two journalists. They vandalised 16 vehicles that time. After that CU authorities formed a prove body consisting four members headed by science faculty dean.
