The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Iqbal Mahmood yesterday said the good governance in the banking sector has started returning, reports BSS.
“The information so far we have, the good governance in the bank sector has started to return,” he said while a seven-member delegation of the IMF (International Monetary Fund) headed by its mission chief Daisaku Kihara met him at his Segunbagicha office in the capital.
Informing the delegation of some measures taken by the commission to bring good governance in the bank sector, he also said, “ACC filed several cases relating to corruption in the bank sector. Some bank officials have already been brought to book in the last two years. The boards of director in most of the banks have already been changed.”
During the meeting the delegation talked on various matters such as corruption, good governance and reforms in the financial sector.
ACC chairman Mahmood also informed the delegation that verdicts in eight money laundering cases filed in 2017 have already been delivered by the trial courts and the accused in the cases were convicted.
“The commission has been trying to stop money laundering in the private sector although the amendments to the Money Laundering Act in 2015 has empowered the ACC to only conduct investigation into matters of money laundering conducted by the government officials and employees,” he also said.
Among others, ACC Commissioner AFM Aminul Islam, Secretary Md Shamsul Arefin and Director General (DG) Zafor Iqbal, were present on the occasion.
