A westerly triggered rainstorm in different parts of the country, including Dhaka, early yesterday. The rainstorm caught many unawares. People wondered what was happenining so early in the day. Many had to rise from their bed to shut windows, as gusty winds, accompanied by a little rain, were blowing outside, cooling the temperature. But it ended as fast as it came at 4.12am. Winds rose
to 92 km per hour in Mymensingh to the north of Dhaka. In the city, winds reached 62 km per hour and were accompanied by 6mm of rainfall, the met office reported. Mohammad Shahinul Islam, a meteorologist, said winds blew over Bogra at 62kmph and 41kmph over Rajshahi.
He said strong winds and rain are likely at one or two places in Dhaka, Mymensingh, Rangpur, Khulna, Barisal and Chittagong divisions today (Tuesday). The westerly-induced rainstom heralds the advent of the summer heat replacing the cool of spring. Temperatures are likely to start rising after today, Shahinul Islam noted.
